Source: I honestly don’t remember if I won this book or got it at the library.

Synopsis (via Goodreads): Six months have passed since Laurel saved the gateway to the faerie realm of Avalon. Now she must spend her summer there, honing her skills as a Fall faerie. But her human family and friends are still in mortal danger--and the gateway to Avalon is more compromised than ever.

When it comes time to protect those she loves, will she depend on David, her human boyfriend, for help? Or will she turn to Tamani, the electrifying faerie with whom her connection is undeniable?

In a Sentence: Now that she knows the truth about her life, choosing her path might be harder than Laurel ever thought possible.

Review: Pike developed her characters so well in the first book that starting this book felt like coming back to old friends. While the book picks up 6 months after the last book ends, the reader should have no problem jumping right back into the story.

I found the descriptions of the fairy realm to be both enchanting and a bit too long.

Pike really focuses her attention on Tamani in this book, revealing more of his past and his deep connection to Laurel. On one hand, Pike convinces you to root for Tamani and Laurel to be together forever, but, on the other hand, you see Laurel’s pain at having to make her choice between the two and you know that no decision will be easy, even if it is the right one.

The overarching story outside of the training seems a bit lacking, but that’s expected with so much being packed into one book.

Overall, a fun read and a great sequel.

Cover: I think the cover is beautiful and reflects a portion of the faerie world in which Laurel is living during this book.
